Streamwood director gone:
Friday was the Streamwood Chamber of Commerce executive director's last day. Sue Berg sent out an e-mail Thursday night announcing her departure "due to circumstances beyond her control." She thanked village, township and chamber officials for the opportunity. Neither she nor other chamber officials could be reached Friday for further explanation. Before joining the chamber, Berg worked for the Chicago Slaughter indoor football team based out of Hoffman Estates.
Hoffman center dedication:
The village of Hoffman Estates will name its Public Works Center, 2305 W. Pembroke Ave., in honor of longtime trustee Susan Kenley-Rupnow during a ceremony at 2 p.m. today. Kenley-Rupnow served on the village board for 20 years and, at the time of her death last February, was a member of the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board. Her daughter, Kris Beutel, will speak at the dedication. The public is invited.
Taekwondo testing today:
The Buffalo Grove Fitness Center will conduct Taekwondo belt testing from 2-4 p.m. today. Belt testing is an event that promotes a student who meets the requirements of the next belt level. Master Mary Alindogan, former Olympian, South East Games and Asian Games champion and Philippines National Team member, will judge the tests, while Master Instructor Aris DeGuzman leads the participants. He teaches the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center Taekwondo classes. For information, call (847) 353-7500.
Tennis fundraiser today:
The 7th annual Sara Jackson Memorial Tennis Fun Fest will be held from 3-6 p.m. today at Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove Boulevard and Arlington Heights Road. Sara Jackson, who earned 11 varsity letters, graduated from Elk Grove High School 1995. All are invited to come play or watch. Donations go to the Sara Jackson Memorial Scholarship, given to a senior athlete at Elk Grove. More information is at sarajackson.net.
Claremont carnival coming:
The Claremont Rehab & Living Center,150 N. Weiland Road, Buffalo Grove, is hosting its 4th annual Claremont Carnival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. A ribbon-cutting for newly renovated Heritage Place will be at 12:30 p.m. Call (847) 465-0200 for information.
