Dist. 211 contract a bust for taxpayers
The fact that this new contract guarantees teachers a cost of living increase the second-fourth years of the contract and offers step raises as well is totally irresponsible!
This is nothing new for a school district that has been run more like a Profit Center than a limited budget governmental entity. I would say the score on this contact is the D211 Teachers Union 10 and the D211 School Superintendent/School Board 0.
Our citizens need to understand that currently teachers in D211 are among the highest paid high school teachers in the world when their outrageously generous retirements are factored in with their current high wages.
Just where does D211 expect to get money for these taxpayer funded wage increases? Mayor Daley of Chicago publicly advised all of his city managers earlier this year to not expect an increase in tax funding for many years. He also told them that there could very likely be cuts in tax revenue meaning lower budgets as well.
Apparently the D211 superintendent and school board must know something about some secret cache of money the state has to cover this kind of situation that Daley is unaware of - or are acting in a completely irresponsible way with this agreement.
Most likely there is no money left from the referendum all of us foolish taxpayers awarded D211 a few years ago. D211 most likely burned through what was left of that money on teachers' raises that averaged way beyond the cost of living last year and then decided to install pro style artificial turf on the football fields for all of the schools.
Perhaps when times get tough this turf can be sold to some rich oil producing country to raise some money for these raises.
