Naperville to honor hoops star:

Naperville Park District plans to rename the basketball court at Springfield Park as Candace Parker Basketball Court. The park board approved the renaming Thursday in honor of the former Naperville resident who went on to win back-to-back NCAA championships while at the University of Tennessee and a gold medal during the 2008 Olympics. She now plays in the WNBA for the Los Angeles Sparks. A formal dedication will be held July 30.

Glen Ellyn Coffee with Cops:

Glen Ellyn police will sponsor Coffee with the Cops at 8 a.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane St. Police say the intent is for residents to come to an informal setting to get answers about police-related issues. Chief Phil Norton and others will be available for about two hours to answer questions. For details, call (630) 469-1187.

Honoring seniors:

Nominations are being taken for Lombard's Senior of the Year award. The annual award recognizes outstanding seniors, one male and one female, for their contributions to the community. Lombard residents 65 or older are eligible. Nominations must include a brief statement, 50 words or less, on why the senior should be considered for the award and a short biography of the nominee. The nomination deadline is Sept. 1 and the award will be presented at the village's Senior Fair in October. Nominations may be sent to Community Development Department, Attention: Senior of the Year Award, 255 E. Wilson, Lombard, IL 60148 or by email to kottj@villageoflombard.org.

Post office changes hours:

Wood Dale Post Office will reduce its full service retail counter hours effective July 13. The new hours will be 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, instead of 8:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Acting Postmaster Kusum Puri said the shortened hours are due to a decline in mail volume driven by the downturn in the economy.
