Man held on $200,000 bond after car theft charges

A 28-year-old homeless man is being held on a $200,000 bond after authorities said he stole two cars and burglarized three others in a spree that took him through three villages.

Michael Scipior, whose last listed address is in Schaumburg, was arrested on Monday by Hanover Park police while driving a 1996 Honda Accord stolen last week in Schaumburg, said Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl.

While in custody, Scipior admitted to stealing an SUV and robbing from three other vehicles in Streamwood, the Cook County state's attorney's office said.

Scipior appeared Wednesday in Rolling Meadows court. The relatively high bond was because of the number of different crimes for which he's been charged, prosecutors added.

Streamwood Police Sgt. John Sunter confirmed Scipior is suspected in Saturday night burglaries to three pest control trucks parked near Barrington and Schaumburg roads. Scipior also stole a 1997 Ford Explorer on the night of June 20 from a muffler repair shop at 44 N. Barrington Road, Sunter added. The car stolen in Schaumburg was also from a repair shop, Nebl said.

Streamwood police charged Scipior with possession of a stolen vehicle and three counts of burglary to a vehicle for taking GPS units, Sunter said. Schaumburg police charged Scipior with possession of a stolen vehicle, Nebl said.
