Favorite Molasses Cookies

3/4 cup butter

1 cup sugar

¼

cup dark molasses

1 egg

2 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½

teaspoon salt

½

teaspoon ground cloves

½

teaspoon ground ginger

Granulated sugar for rolling

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar. Beat in the molasses and egg until well combined. With mixer at low speed, add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves and ginger; beat until combined. Wrap dough and refrigerate 1 hour.

Roll dough into 1-inch balls, then roll in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Slightly flatten each dough ball with the bottom of a juice glass. Bake 6-8 minutes or just until set.

Remove cookies from sheet and let cool on a brown paper bag.

Makes about 4 dozen.
