Heineman school recognizes students for volunteer work

Heineman Middle School, Huntley Unit District 158, recently awarded 15 student volunteers with the President's Volunteer Service Award, a prestigious national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service.

Established in 2003, the award is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. As one of thousands of certifying organizations participating in the award program, the Heineman Middle School Service Club confers the award to recognize the outstanding achievements of its volunteers.

Heineman Middle School has a history of student volunteer service, and more than 50 students perform community service each year on behalf of the school. To date, 71 student volunteers have received the President's Volunteer Service Award with 5,821 hours recorded; this does not include those students who have participated in the program, but earned fewer than the minimum 50 hours of service required.

Recipients for this year's award include: Congratulations to the recipients for this year:

• Gold Winners: 100 hours, Diana Pacyga, Erika Huckins and Randi Peterson.

• Silver Winners: 75 hours, Aesha Talia and Sarah Smylie.

• Bronze Winners: 50 hours, Alekya Prathivadi, Bijal Suchde, Jessi Owensby, Priya Thakkar, Allison Gentry, Danielle Smith, Jessica Marsh, Katie Till, McKenna Kleiner and Preet Dhillon.

America's volunteers work to make our communities better. As a certifying organization for the award program, Heineman Middle School is proud to be aligned with this prestigious volunteer award, and is especially proud of the students who have made volunteer service a central part of their lives. These recipients of the President's Volunteer Service Award are role models for all students.
