• Eric S. Anderson, son of Steven and Elizabeth Anderson of Schaumburg, was promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Army.

Anderson, a 2002 graduate of Schaumburg High School, and a 2006 graduate of Illinois State University, is a member of the 2/8/3 Border Transition Team, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kan., currently serving near Kirkush, Iraq.

Border Transition Teams (BTTs) are transition teams embedded with the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior's Department of Border Enforcement (DBE) forces at the regimental and battalion levels. These teams assist the DBE in patrolling and controlling illicit border crossings on Iraq's international borders. These teams focus on assisting the DBE in preventing infiltration of insurgent, terrorist, and criminal elements into Iraq.

• Timothy W. Anderson, son of Steven and Elizabeth Anderson of Schaumburg, was commissioned on May 8, as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.

Anderson, a 2006 graduate of Schaumburg High School, attended Illinois State University on a federal ROTC scholarship. He graduates from Illinois State with a bachelors of science degree in criminal justice.

Anderson is an Ordnance Officer assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Knox, Ky.

• Army Spec. Daniel M. Demus graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Demus is the son of Irene Demus of Palatine. The specialist graduated in 2004, from William Fremd High School, Palatine, and received a bachelor's degree in 2008, from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

• Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Steve M. Rodriguez graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Halina Rodriguez of Hoffman Estates and Horace Rodriguez of Schaumburg. Rodriguez is a 2006 graduate of James B. Conant High School, Hoffman Estates.
