Burlington Central comes up short in Class 3A semifinal, losing 4-0

Burlington Central's girls softball team came up short in Class 3A state semifinal play Friday morning at Eastside Centre in East Peoria as Oak Forest topped the Rockets 4-0.

Burlington Central, which made its first trip to the state's Final Four, will compete in the third-place game at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, while Oak Forest will meet either Glenbard South or Chatham Glenwood at noon Saturday for the state championship.

Burlington Central committed 4 errors, and all 4 runs allowed by losing pitcher Mackenzie Scott (20-3) were unearned. She gave up 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Oak Forest scored once in the third inning on a throwing erorr, once in the fourth on a throwing error and twice in fifth on errors.

Burlington (25-6) managed only 4 hits against Oak Forest sophomore Emily Norton. Senior shortstop Kayla Oranger had 2 of the Rockets' hits.

Norton finished with 13 strikeouts for Oak Forest (30-4).
