Tri-Cities briefs
Film fest fundraiser:
Filmmakers will discuss their craft from 7 to 10 tonight at Wildwood Restaurant, 477 S. Third St. in Geneva, to raise money for the 2010 Geneva Film Festival. The $25 ticket price includes hors d'oeuvres. There is a cash bar. Call (630) 377-8325 for reservations. For a list of speakers, visit genevafilmfestival.org.
North Aurora special meeting:
The North Aurora village board will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eden Supportive Living, 311 S. Lincolnway. It will discuss the new committee system for the board and the board's meeting schedule for the next year. It will also discuss ideas for celebrating the village's 175th anniversary.
Trail closed for bridge work:
A section of the Fox River Trail in Carpentersville will remain closed this week, likely until Friday, due to nearby construction work. The Kane County Forest Preserve District will be installing bridge abutments for a bridge to be set during the summer. The work will force the temporary closure of the trail from the entrance road of Fox River Shores Forest Preserve north to Angelina Place. Posted signs will alert trail users to the closure. There will be no access through the section of trail, nor will there be an alternate route during that time because of traffic and limited shoulder space on Williams Road. Call (630) 232-5980.
Artistic duo to visit:
An opening reception for artists Mary Beth Martinec and Mary Kay Hanlock will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Gallery 200, 200 Main St., West Chicago. The two women, who are cousins, are the featured artists this month. Martinec paints watercolor landscapes and mixed-media work. Hanlock specializes in glass painting, using old windows, glass blocks and wine glasses as her canvas. Their work will be on display through June 28, and 10 percent of sales will be donated to the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, where Martinec works.

Heritage Prairie Farm and Market of Elburn offers a Father's Day Pig Roast June 21.
