Synagogue to bless pets:
More than 50 people are expected to bring their pets - mostly cats and dogs - to Naperville's Congregation Beth Shalom when it holds its inaugural Bless Your Pet Party at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at 772 W. 5th Ave. Program coordinator Karen Zatz said Jewish pet blessings are new to Naperville but are a fixture in synagogues elsewhere in the country. Ides to play Bensenville:
Jim Peterik and The Ides of March will open Bensenville's Music in the Park summer concert series at 7:30 p.m. June 10 in the Bensenville Towne Center at the corner of Green and Center streets. Cantigny plans concerts:
A classic country and bluegrass band, Prairie Dogs, will launch the outdoor summer concert season with a performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. The concerts are free with regular admission parking of $5 per vehicle. The series will continue with a total of six concerts in June, including two geared for children. Naperville holds safety class:
The Naperville Citizen Corps Council Emergency Preparedness Education Group will hold a class on emergency preparedness at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Riverwalk Community Center, 305 Jackson Ave. The free class will offer residents and those who work in Naperville preparedness tips with an emphasis on lightning safety and what to do in inclement weather. Participants must register by June 12 by calling (630) 305-7000 ext. 570 by leaving a name, phone number and mentioning the class.
Electronic recycling changes:
Wheaton residents are encouraged to take advantage of two June electronic recycling opportunities before schedule changes go into effect. From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 6, and Saturday, June 20, residents can drop off unwanted electronics at the public works storage facility, 821 W. Liberty Drive. The city been offering electronic recycling collections on the first and third Saturdays of each month since the start of the year. But no collections are planned for July. And starting in August, collections will only take place on the first Saturday of each month.
