The contest was open to all ages. Two runners up, Marie Hendren and Samantha Parkison, received $50 gift cards. Highway resurfacing begins:
IDOT will soon begin resurfacing several state roads starting: Route 72/Touhy Avenue from Mannheim Road to Wolf Road; Route 12/45 from Prospect Avenue to Rand Road; Route 12/Rand Road from Third Avenue to Lundergan Avenue; and River Road from Touhy Avenue to Devon Avenue. The resurfacing work is funded through the American Reinvestment Recovery Act. All routes will have single lanes closures beginning Monday, June 15, through September. Expect long delays during construction. Motorists are advised to follow signage and drive cautiously and to use alternate routes.
Rec group plans food drive:
The Buffalo Grove Recreation Association, which operates youth baseball, is sponsoring a food drive this weekend. In response to the traditionally high demands on food pantries in late spring and early summer, the association is asking its young players and their families to bring nonperishable food items and paper goods to their games on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. Team managers will collect all items, and the league will then donate the items to the Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council for distribution to local food pantries.
