Village auction, garage sale:

Hanover Park has twice the bargains today: Both a police auction and a village garage sale are being held. The auction, at the Public Works Garage, 2121 W. Lake St., starts at 8 a.m. with a preview of items; the bidding begins at 9 a.m. The sale is on rain or shine and all sales are final. Meanwhile, the Hanover Park "Maxwell Street West" garage sale is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today in the commuter parking lot, Lake Street and Barrington Road.

Bluesmobile Cruise Nights:

The 2009 season of Bluesmobile Cruise Nights, every Saturday all summer in downtown Mount Prospect, begins tonight. The event is 6-9 p.m. every Saturday until Sept. 26 in the Metra lot, Route 83 and Northwest Hwy. For tonight's debut, in honor of Armed Forces Day the event will host a military vehicles show.

Harper symphony to perform:

The Harper College Symphony Orchestra will take the stage for the last time this academic year for an "Americana" concert featuring Gershwin's "American in Paris." The concert is at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in Harper's Performing Arts Center at Algonquin and Roselle roads in Palatine. Tickets are $10, with discounts for students and seniors and free admission for children ages 12 and under. The orchestra is comprised of professional, community and college musicians and is under the direction of conductor Brian Groner. For tickets, (847) 925-6100 or harpercollege.edu/boxoffice.
