Huntley District 158 to lose special education chief

Meg Schnoor, who has overseen Huntley Unit District 158's special education program during a period of rapid growth, has announced her resignation.

After seven years, Schnoor will leave District 158 at the end of the school year to work as assistant superintendent for student services in Elmhurst Unit District 205.

"I am very sad to leave the district," said Schnoor, who oversees special education and early childhood programs in District 158. "I'm potentially going to be relocating. It would work better - to be closer to the city."

Superintendent John Burkey plans to hire a replacement by July 1 and said he hopes the reputation of the district's special education program will draw qualified applicants.

"I think that does help," Burkey said. "We talk to many parents who say the program is one of the reasons (they) moved here."

Schnoor diverted credit for the success of the special education program. "I'm incredibly proud of my staff," Schnoor said. "We really significantly reduced the number of students who were educated out of district."

The district is also seeking to replace Susan Kondrat, its early childhood coordinator. Kondrat is leaving at the end of the school year to join Schnoor as District 205's early childhood director.
