Antioch wins, clinches NSC Prairie
Antioch's softball team clinched the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division championship Tuesday - without playing a divisional game.
While the Sequoits were busy beating McHenry 5-0 in nonconference action, Lakes was upending Vernon Hills 6-3.
Antioch (24-2) is 9-1 in the NSC Prairie, with only a home-and-home series with Lakes next week remaining. Vernon Hills fell to 6-4 in the division, with two divisional games against Grant left.
Against McHenry, Antioch got all the runs it needed when Ashley Mysliwiec jacked a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Olivia Duehr (12-1) pitched a 1-hitter, striking out 15 and walking no one. She also homered and went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Antioch also got contributions offensively from Allie Anttila (2-for-4), Lauren Moore (2-for-3) and Jamie Villalobos (2-for-3).
Lakes 6, Vernon Hills 3: The Eagles avenged Monday's 18-5 loss, as Shannon Cooley cranked a 2-run homer and Jasmine Rivera ripped a 2-RBI double in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Naomi Tesat went 3-for-3 for Lakes (18-9, 6-4).
Charlotte Hoffmann had a double for Vernon Hills (15-5, 6-4).
Lake Zurich 7, Lake Forest 1: Coryn Schmit was 2-for-3 and Amanda Orchard went 2-for-2 with 2 stolen bases for the Bears in North Suburban Lake action.
Lake Zurich (25-5, 7-2) got doubles from winning pitcher Tabbetha Bohac, Megan Mattera and Alex Block.
Stevenson 3, Mundelein 2: Annelise Docel's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth helped the Patriots avenge Monday's 11-10 upset loss in North Suburban Lake action.
Ashley Niedermayer, Allison Miccuci and Jordan Willis each had 2 hits for Stevenson (17-9, 8-2). Micucci earned the win.
Jessica Bjerning had a triple for Mundelein (4-5 NSC Lake).
