Woman charged in theft scheme:
A Woodridge woman is accused of stealing more than $550,000 while working as a secretary at a Downers Grove law firm, prosecutors said Tuesday. Mary Marra, 41, will be arraigned May 19 on 15 felony counts alleging theft, forgery and continuing financial crimes enterprise. Prosecutors said Marra deposited unauthorized checks into her bank account and forged her employer's signature during a scheme from December 2002 to February 2008. Marra is free on a $100,000 bond.
Judge orders former COD chairman to pay up:
DuPage Associate Judge Joseph Bongiorno on Tuesday ordered former College of DuPage Board Chairman Mike McKinnon to pay about $35,500 in fees and costs to the attorneys of former trustees Mary Mack and Jane Herron, who he unsuccessfully sued for defamation after they accused him of sexual harassment. A third former trustee, Mary Sue Brown, still is negotiating a possible settlement. McKinnon also must cover his own legal fees. Still at issue is Mack's countersuit against COD and McKinnon. A July 15 status date has been set.
Police search for burglar:
Naperville police are looking for the person(s) responsible for recent burglaries at local car washes. The first occurred about 7:30 p.m. April 30 when a suspect was dropped off at Steve's Car Wash, 5008 Ace Lane and entered the business by prying open a window. The person left after unsuccessfully trying to pry open the cash register. Later that evening, the same suspect was dropped off at the Brighton Car Wash, 952 W. 75th St. and shattered a window to gain access. The person pried open the cash register and obtained an undisclosed amount of money. The vehicle used is believed to be a green older model GMC or Chevrolet SUV and the suspect is believed to be a white or Hispanic male. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Call (630) 420-6006.
Tobacco sale arrest:
On May 8, Roselle police conducted tobacco compliance inspections at 28 retailers and found one clerk in violation. Narenda Thakkar, 57, of 341 Jennifer Lane in Roselle, was charged with unlawful sale of tobacco to a minor. Thakkar, who works at Payless Tobacco on 386 E. Irving Park Road, was released after posting a $75 bond and has a pending court date.
Adventist names chief nurse:
Naperville resident Shawn O'Connor Tyrrell has accepted the position of regional vice president/chief nursing officer for Adventist Midwest Health and vice president/chief nursing officer for Adventist Hinsdale Hospital. Tyrrell has more than 20 years of nursing leadership experience, most recently as vice president of nursing services at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she has worked since 2000.
