Runty, Greene retirement party

The Kaneland Community Unit School District 302 school board will host a reception for Marilee Geene, special education director, and Tom Runty, assistant superintendent of business, at 6 p.m. Monday, May 11 in the district office conference room, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park. Both are retiring June 30. The reception will be held just before the regularly scheduled board of education meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.

Cancer care presentation

LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, a provider of nonmedical support at no cost for people living with cancer, will host a presentation titled, "Alternative and Complementary Therapies for Cancer Patients" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 at 1803 W. United Way seeks help

The Batavia United Way is looking for new board members and will have a coffee for prospects from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 12. The Batavia United Way distributes more than $80,000 annually to 15 local nonprofit agencies in the Batavia area. The board meets once a month, and members also serve on subcommittees.

Memories of warriors

Dennis Enneking, a Vietnam War veteran and member of Fox Valley-Geneva American Legion Post 75, will dedicate his Memorial Day speech to local servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice. He wants to hear how the death of a relative or friend affected your life. Send your story by Sunday, May 17 to d.enneking@sbcglobal.net. All stories will be saved and available for reading at the post, located at Second and James streets in Geneva.

West Chicago artist project:

New York-based artist Jorge Rojas is working with the West Chicago community to create a multimedia art project at the West Chicago City Museum, 132 Main St. He will work out of the museum from now through Saturday, May 16 to create, "My space: West Chicago," the fourth installment of an ongoing series of community-based projects.
