May 7-17

Art show: Marian Central Catholic High School presents their 2008-2009 Art Show at the Old Courthouse Art Center on the Woodstock Square. The show runs from Thursday, May 7 to Sunday, May 17 and features the work of Marian students. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. A student reception will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

The exhibit will showcase an array of exceptional two- and three-dimensional work including paintings, drawings and water colors as well as pottery, photography and more from Marian's talented students Art teacher Erin Widmayer announced.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Arts and craft fair: The second annual Pingree Grove arts and craft fair will feature more than 70 artists and crafters from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Route 20 and Reinking Road. It will be held rain or shine. For details, visit www.villageofpingreegrove.org.

Blooming Fest: Organizers of West Chicago Blooming Fest are gearing up for the annual downtown event which will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Currently, the focus is on attracting crafters, artists and garden-related vendors to share the 80-plus booth spaces with downtown businesses, live entertainment and children's activities. All types of vendors, including handicrafts, art, photography, sculpture and jewelry will comprise the craft fair located on Main Street. Booths are priced at $50 for a 10-foot by 10-foot space.

Blooming Fest is presented by the city of West Chicago, in cooperation with the West Chicago Park District and various community groups and individuals. Summertime Arts and Crafts Faire: Crafters and artists are needed for the Summertime Arts and Crafts Faire on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 at Algonquin Commons, 1900 S. Randall Road in Algonquin. This authentic, handmade only arts and crafts show will spotlight original artists and crafters from the area.
