Ganas named Hoffman Estates wrestling coach
Maine West graduate Anthony Ganas has been named wrestling coach at Hoffman Estates.
He will take over the Hawks' wrestling program after coaching in the collegiate ranks the past three years. Ganas will serve as a special education teacher at Hoffman Estates, beginning with the 2009-2010 school year.
Since 2006, Mr. Ganas has been an assistant wrestling coach at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where the program finished second in 2007 and third in 2008 at the NCAA Division III championships. Ganas helped coach 17 All-Americans and one individual national champion.
As a collegiate wrestler at Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa, Mr. Ganas was a two-time NCAA qualifier (2001 & 2002) and was named an NCAA All-American in 2002. Wartburg finished second in the National team tournament in 2000 and 2002.
He graduated in 1998 from Maine West, where Ganas had a career 160-21 record, the second-most career wins in Warriors history. He earned all-conference honors four times (1995-1998) and was a two-time all-state wrestler, in 1996 and 1998.
