Prospect prevails at Niles North Invite
Two days after winning its own District 214 meet with 143.65 points, Prospect took first-place honors at the Niles North Invite with a score of 144.33, finishing ahead of runner-up Elk Grove (137.6), Niles West (133.83), Glenbrook South (129.65) and Rolling Meadows (128.95).
Knights senior Joe Napoleon (49.05) was the all-around champ followed by Rolling Meadows sophomore Marc Herff (46.93).
Prospect senior Ben Raeder won the high bar competition with an 8.5 while Napoleon was second at 8.0
Meadows' John Scallon came home first on the pommel horse with a 9.5 while Elk Grove senior Mike Jachura was tops on the still rings at 8.55.
Elk Grove scored its best vault in 30 years under coach Bill Watts.
The Grenadiers' score of 27.55 included Jachura's 9.23, junior Senji Yee's 9.17 and senior Kamil Nytko's 9.15.
"The kids all just hit their routines," Watts said. "It was Senji's first 9 in the event."
Watts was also delighted to see Mike Passarelli earn the first medal of his career as the senior scored a 7.65 for ninth place on the parallel bars.
