Kaneland teens to take defensive driving course

On Wednesday, April 22, 110 Kaneland High School students will have the opportunity to attend the National Safety Council "Alive at 25" defensive driving class on the Sugar Grove Campus of Waubonsee Community College.

This initiative is the result of a cooperative effort between Kaneland school authorities, the Sugar Grove Police Department, the Kane County DUI Taskforce and Waubonsee's Driver Safety Program.

John Sizer, an investigator with the Sugar Grove Police Department, and a part-time Waubonsee defensive driving instructor, has been on the scene of numerous local traffic crashes.

"Anything I can do to help instill greater awareness of the risks these young drivers face and prevent future traffic violations, collisions, injuries and/or deaths is time well spent," Sizer said. "Teaching the 'Alive at 25' program has given me a unique opportunity to lead young people in a valuable discussion about the risks they face and how they can avoid using poor judgment or making bad decisions whether they are behind the wheel or simply riding as a passenger."
