Addison school honors:
Two Addison Elementary District 4 schools have earned spots on the 2008 Illinois Honor Roll. Stone School was named an Academic Excellence Award winner. Stone is one of 388 schools recognized for sustaining a high academic performance over at least three years. To qualify, elementary schools must have at least 90 percent of their students meeting or exceeding state standards both in reading and in mathematics for at least three consecutive years. Lake Park Elementary earned a Spotlight School Award for the third year in a row. The award recognizes schools with high poverty rates that demonstrate high academic performance. D-Day veterans sought:
The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton is making plans to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day on June 6. The guests of honor will be World War II veterans who took part in D-Day in 1944, when American soldiers landed on the beaches at Normandy in northern France. New technology director:
The DuPage Area Occupational Education System appointed Steve Clark as its new executive director. Beginning July 1, Clark will serve as director for both the system and Technology Center of DuPage in Addison. The 14-member system board is the governing body for Technology Center of DuPage in Addison and 23 other Career and Technical Education delivery sites in the DuPage area. Clark will take over from Alf Logan, who has served as interim director for the 2008-09 school year. Clark comes with more than 25 years of career and technical education experience.
