Grayslake Central wins own tourney
Megan LeBaron and Allie Black each had a goal and an assist, as Grayslake Central's girls soccer team won its own tournament with a 5-1 win over Grant.
Grayslake Central (3-2, 3-0) also got goals from Allison Mitchell, Skyler Jessop and Hannah Risinger. Melissa Kuehl, Kat Dickson and Emily Schrader added assists.
Grayslake North 3, Waukegan 0: At Grayslake Central, sophomore Kim Shurtliff scored a goal in each half.
Danielle Wohlfeil also had a goal, while freshman Liz Steinhoff and Alyssa Soulis chipped in assists.
Freshmen Andrea Lamb and Brooke Sauer combined for the shutout. Coach Adam DeCaluwe also cited the strong play of freshman defenders Katie McGrath and Katie Lahera.
"Our girls came out and dominated the game right from the start," said DeCaluwe, whose Knights led 2-0 at halftime. "We looked to make sure that we dictated the play of the game, as with the youth we have, our girls are still getting used to working within our system. The girls are gaining more confidence with every game they play, and it definitely showed (Thursday)."
St. Ignatius 2, Lake Zurich 0: In Chicago, the host school scored a goal in each half of the Pepsi Showdown quarterfinal.
Keeper Maggie Eisenhuth made 8 saves for Lake Zurich (2-2).
Buffalo Grove 3, Mundelein 2: At Lake Park, Ashley Begrowicz scored both goals for the Mustangs (3-2-1).
