More on township office space flap
Based on Addison Township Supervisor Kathryn Cermak-Durante's Fence Post letter of March 17, math is not her strong point. As to the 3,199 square feet, that was the number reported in the minutes of the January Board meeting. If the actual number is 1,399, I accept her correction. What puzzles me is the fuzzy math that follows. I'm not sure how the $500 per month paid by State Rep. Dennis Reboletti on the 1,399 square feet of space saves the taxpayer $17,256 per year. How do taxpayers pay $11 a square foot on the 1,399 square feet used by him?
Mrs. Pat Durante also missed the utilities factor in her effort to show how she has saved the taxpayer any money. Utilities were included, free of charge, in the $500 a month rent, compliments of the taxpayers. Most tenants pay utilities, but not our Republican state representative. The financial report shows the township having paid NICOR $29,687 and ComEd $40,418, or a total of $70,105. Mrs. Durante, what is the percentage of space used by Mr. Reboletti in comparison to the total space heated and lighted by the township? What is the total paid by taxpayers to heat and light Mr. Reboletti's 1,399 sq. ft. office space? Take your time.
What Mrs. Pat Durante fails to address, again, is her own salary of $58,000 a year, a 100 percent increase in the past seven years. How did that increase save the taxpayers money? And, how many taxpayers earning $58,000 a year don't have to have office hours? Mrs. Durante, a simple question: Why are you never (hardly ever) in the township office?
