Arredia endorses Moylan:

Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia has endorsed Ward 2 Alderman Martin Moylan to succeed him. For months, Arredia has been mum about which of the four mayoral hopefuls vying for the job on Tuesday, April 7, he would support. "I had four friends running; that's why I didn't want to make a commitment," he said. "I wasn't going to endorse anybody but after I saw the debate, and everybody kept asking me ... in a moment of weakness, I said OK." Arredia said Moylan's message made the most sense and his platform was "doable." Arredia served two elected terms as mayor and is being ousted by term limits.

Robber strikes in Des Plaines:

A masked robber entered Touhy Liquors, 1924 E. Touhy Ave. in Des Plaines, about 1 p.m. Tuesday armed with a large hunting type knife and demanded money from the employee working the register, police said. The store is equipped with security cameras and detectives working the case are reviewing the footage of the crime. The offender is described as male, possibly white, approximately 6-foot tall, 180 to 220 pounds, last seen wearing a dark colored zip-up hooded sweatshirt, a dark colored ski mask and dark colored gloves.

Vallas back in Wheeling race:

Charles Vallas, who was removed from the ballot for village trustee in Wheeling after his petitions were challenged, is running as a write-in candidate, the Cook County clerk's office said Wednesday. Four other candidates are running for the three seats. Two of those candidates, Dean Argiris and Stuart Shapiro, had challenged Vallas' petitions, saying required information related to county and state hadn't been filled in. The electoral board upheld the challenge.

Schaumburg Township's Spectrum Youth and Family Services and the Vogelei Teen Center will host a Prom (Formalwear) Gala for teens from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the gymnasium at Schaumburg Township Hall at 1 Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates. Items at the gala will include "gently used" prom/formal dresses, shoes, jewelry, evening bags and men's formalwear. These items will be free to teens and there is a wide selection available. Teens do not necessarily have to be going to prom this year; they can come and get formalwear for any occasion.
