Senior Emilie Kerkman scattered 6 hits and struck out five as the Dundee-Crown softball team won its second game in three tries this young season, beating Sycamore 1-0 Friday.
Melissa Summaria had 2 hits for the Chargers, who pushed the game's lone run across the plate in the fifth inning.
"Emily did a good job pitching today and the defense played very strong for all seven innings," said D-C coach Tracy Beatty, whose team committed just 1 error in the game.
CL South sweeps: Emily Mahoney tossed her second 1-hitter in two days and Crystal Lake South unleashed the big bats in sweeping a nonconference doubleheader from Belvidere by scores of 11-0 and 15-6.
Mahoney struck out nine and walked only one in the opener. She also drove in 2 runs. Vicki Pyan was 3-for-4 with a double and Lauren Swanson had a triple and 2 RBI for the Gators (3-2). In Game 2, Pyan was 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, Kaitlin Hardie was 2-for-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI and Samantha Golf went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. Golf was also the winning pitcher. She struck out six and allowed 7 hits.
Huntley sweeps South Elgin: Huntley came away with identical 4-3 wins against the Storm in nonconference play. South Elgin again played without senior Kim Pierce (flu). Sam Clemmons and Deanna DeBosschere registered the pitching wins for Huntley while Cary Thereon and Xenia Cerda suffered the losses for the Storm. Jenna Mychko was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI for Huntley in Game 2. Courtney Bosteder and Rae Bosteder each had 2 hits for South Elgin in Game 1.
