Haylee Chmela scored 4 goals, as Lake Zurich's girls soccer team blanked visiting Elmwood Park 9-0 in the Pepsi Showdown on Thursday.
Sam Nasca added a pair of goals and an assist for the Bears (1-1). Danielle Rowan, Gina McCoy and Brittani Ford also scored. Callie Anderson contributed 2 assists. Maggie Eisenhuth tended goal and earned the shutout.
Warren 5, Niles North 1: In the Pepsi Showdown game, Sarah Musick scored twice for the Blue Devils.
Warren (1-1) also got goals from Kelsey Armour, Annie Jepson and Kirstin Taylor, who added an assist. Kelsey Taylor had 2 assists. Armour tallied an assist, as well.
Vernon Hills 2, Deerfield 1: Jenny Manhard and Carly Manso scored for the Cougars (1-2).
Carmel 3, Antioch 0: Kassidy Brown and Lauren Lehman each had a goal and an assist for the Corsairs, who spoiled the Sequoits' season opener.
Stevenson-transfer Jessica Gilstrap also scored.
Mundelein 2, Grayslake Central 0: Abbey Ekstrom and Kim Carroll scored late second-half goals for the Mustangs (2-0-1). Nicole Allen earned the shutout.
The Rams fell to 0-2.
Grayslake North 3, Zion-Benton 1: Youth was served, as the Knights received goals from freshmen Liz Steinhoff and Maggie Stojak and sophomore Kim Shurtliff in their season opener. Stojak also had an assist.
Freshmen Andrea Lamb and Brooke Sauer combined for 5 saves in goal for Grayslake North, which trailed 1-0 early.
