Road closure date changed:

Touhy Avenue at the I-294 underpass in Des Plaines will be closed Monday night, March 30, in a change from a plan to close it this week. The closure will be just east of the Touhy Avenue-River Road intersection and will run from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge demolition work. The closure could be extended to Tuesday and Wednesday nights if work necessitates. Detour routes will be Talcott Road, Devon Avenue and Des Plaines River Road.

Buffalo Grove election forum:

The Buffalo Grove Area Chamber of Commerce will host a forum for Buffalo Grove village trustee candidates from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, in the Buffalo Grove High School Theater, 1100 W. Dundee Road. All six candidates running for the three seats are set to attend. Six questions will be posed to the candidates, some from the audience. Assisting the chamber will be the AP Government and Politics Class taught by Zach Crandall, and the Media Class, which will tape the event for replay on the village's cable access channel. Meet Palatine candidates:

Two forums are planned for next week highlighting candidates for Palatine mayor and Palatine Township positions. On Wednesday, April 1, the four candidates for mayor - incumbent Rita Mullins and challengers Warren Kostka, Vito Manola and Jim Schwantz - are scheduled to appear at a debate hosted by the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court. RSVP to the chamber by calling (847) 359-7200 or logging onto palatinechamber.com, then click on "Upcoming Events" and then "Meet the Candidates." The next evening, Thursday, April 2, the Palatine Area League of Women Voters hosts a forum for township candidates at 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 200 E. Wood St. This will also air on local access Channel 6. Earlier forums for other Palatine-area candidates, including Palatine Township Elementary District 15, are also being rebroadcast on Channel 6, and a schedule is available at palatine.il.us.

Meeting on O'Hare runway:

Des Plaines 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten will host a community meeting on the impact of the O'Hare North Runway on Des Plaines residents, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 4, at the Des Plaines Park District's Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St. Topics will include a new environmental impact study around O'Hare airport, the size of aircraft using the new runway and hours of operation.
