Navistar lays off 170 in Arkansas bus plant

CONWAY, Ark. -- A school bus plant owned by Warrenville-based Navistar has laid off 170 more workers in Arkansas.

The cuts some after the IC Corp. plant laid off 300 workers in January, although some workers later came back on the line at the plant.

Navistar spokesman Ron Wiley says the plant had been producing 16 buses a day, but "the cancellation of a huge order" has cut production in half.

Wiley refused to say how many workers are now employed by the plant. Before January, the plant had about 1,100 employees.
