Incumbents, Lundstedt, Arthur for District 128

Five candidates are vying for four seats on the Libertyville-Vernon Hills High School District 128 school board, which will face tough choices even though the district entered this challenging economy on sound financial footing.

Incumbents Patrick Groody and Ellen Mauer are reasonable, sincere, levelheaded public servants. Groody brings leadership experience as a vice president at Abbott Laboratories. Mauer knows education and is the incoming superintendent at Millburn Elementary District 24.

We admire challenger Karin Lundstedt's experience raising money for fine arts and other programs as a Libertyville High School parent. Her experience on committees is a good foundation. Stephen Arthur, also employed by Abbott Laboratories, is just becoming familiar with the issues. He is eager to serve.

Challenger Ann E. Oakley also is seeking re-election to the Cook Memorial Library Board and would like to serve on both. The Daily Herald does not support candidates who would serve on two elected boards. We endorse Groody, Mauer, Lundstedt and Arthur.
