Good choices available for Roselle Dist. 12 voters

While some school districts in Illinois face difficult decisions ahead due to declining enrollments, that's not the case with Roselle Elementary District 12.

As many voters know, District 12 was forced to make some quick decisions last fall when its kindergarten enrollment soared much high than expected. Three classrooms were not enough so a fourth was added. Administrators, staff and parents all pitched in and the transition was handled in good fashion.

That kind of group effort is what's needed for the next school board, and voters in District 12 are fortunate to have five good choices for the four 4-year seats. The two incumbents and three challengers all have the interest of the students at heart and have expressed a commitment to managing an ever-tightening budget.

We recommend returning incumbents Debra Wilson and Keith Hauschildt to their positions while adding Blythe Cammy and Douglas Stokes to the board. Another candidate, Patrick Devitt, would be a fine representative for District 12, but he currently serves on the Roselle Public Library board and we believe it would be best if he served only one board at a time. Devitt has experience on some school district committees, and his volunteer spirit is commendable, but taking a position on the school board deserves undivided attention.
