Conant sweeps Maine East: Sophomore Kailee Prasbrig (1-0) threw a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and no walks as Conant blanked the visitors 21-0 in five innings in the opener.

Sophomore Hilary O'Donnell had 3 hits for the Cougars while junior Vicki McGuire (double), junior Lauren Ambrose, senior Dana Butler, junior Jessica Gennuso and senior Nichole Gross each had 2.

With senior shortstop Kristina Gluth sparking the defense and Butler and Ambrose belting key doubles for the go-ahead runs, Conant won 8-3 in Game 2 which was called in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Paige Ward went all six inning for Conant (2-1), registering 5 strikeouts in her first win of the year.

Gennuso had 2 hits for the Cougars while Ambrose and Butler each had triples.

Maine West, Buffalo Grove split: Senior all-area ace Emily Ott (2-1) threw a 2-hitter in Game 1 as the host Warriors (2-2) posted a 4-1 triumph.

Ott also tripled for the winners, who had 5 hits.

Sophomore Emily Begnel was the winning pitcher with a 3-hitter and she also hit a home run in Game 2 as Buffalo Grove won 13-1 in five innings.

Senior Meg Miller and sophomore Andrea DiPrima each doubled for the winners while sophomore teammate Danni Shapiro had a triple.
