Plenty of good choices in Bloomingdale District 13

School board candidates in Bloomingdale Elementary District 13 face some of the same challenges in many other school districts: balancing available resources, maintaining small class sizes, and improving the quality of education in the shadows of a shifting tax base threatened by the economic recession.

Fortunately, parents are very active in District 13 and there is experienced leadership in place that is capable of maintaining high standards. And these leaders are willing to explore alternatives to help students achieve even greater goals.

While we commend Meena Patel for her willingness to get involved, we believe voters should return all three incumbents to their elected office so they can continue their efforts to raise student achievement scores while working within a balanced budget. We endorse Diane E. Birkley, Fina Klco and Cary Moreth for the three 4-year terms. Their experience and commitment will serve the district well.
