Lake Zurich and Deer Park candidate forum
The Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce hosts a village president candidate forum for Lake Zurich and Deer Park tonight. Both will be in Lake Zurich High School from 7 to 9 p.m. The Lake Zurich forum will be in the small auditorium and the Deer Park forum will be in the library. These are open community forums and all questions will come from the audience. In the April 7 election, incumbent John Tolomei, Trustee Suzanne Branding and independent candidate Scot Unger are running for village president in Lake Zurich. Incumbent Scott Gifford and Trustee Robert Kellermann are running for the top office in Deer Park.
Antioch Community Chorus presents The Crucifixion
The Antioch Community Chorus presents The Crucifixion on March 29 in the sanctuary of the Benedictine Abbey, 12605 224th Ave., Benet Lake, WI. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. The Crucifixion is a choral meditation based on the last few days of the life of Christ leading to his death on the cross. Kris Bolin of Antioch will direct and Jeff Smith of Antioch is the organist. The concert runs about one hour. Admission is free. For information call (847) 395-1333 or (847) 265-3152.
Lindenhurst reminds about phosphorus ban
Lindenhurst village officials are reminding residents not to use fertilizers containing phosphorus. The village's ban went into effect Jan. 1. The use of phosphorus in fertilizers can cause an increase in the rate and volume of undesirable biological growth. "We encourage residents to comply with these regulations to ensure long-term protection of our water quality in lakes and streams," Mayor Susan Lahr said.
Waukegan shooting
Waukegan Police are searching for three men wanted for questioning in a shooting Sunday that left a 15-year-old injured and hospitalized. Cmdr. Wayne Walles said police were called to Woodard Park on May Street because of a report of shots fired. There, they found the North Chicago teen face down on the basketball court with a gunshot wound in the neck. Walles said were told by witnesses that three men entered the park and fired shots toward the basketball court. The suspects fled north into a waiting vehicle and sped away. The injured teen was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan before being flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he is in critical condition, Walles said. Choir wins big
Mundelein High School's Mundelein Sound show choir was named grand champions of the Grand National Show and Concert Choir Invitational this past weekend in Wisconsin. Sound was honored for its outstanding show design, and the Mundelein Sound Combo was chosen as the best instrumental ensemble, school officials said. The Mundelein High Master Singers, Mundelein Lights and SoundFX were honored at the event, too.
