Schoolhouse gets money
The state has awarded the Mount Prospect Historical Society $20,000 for the second phase of its effort to restore the 1896 Central School and reopen it to the public. State Sen. Dan Kotowski announced the grant, the first major contribution to the $160,000 project, which includes a installation of a new roof, asbestos removal, the installation of all new plumbing, electrical and heating and air conditioning systems and general restoration. The one-room building was relocated to the Historical Society's museum campus last May as the culmination of the quest to save the structure, where Mount Prospect's letters of incorporation were signed in 1917. The society expects work on the roof, which has been donated by Peterson Roofing of Arlington Heights, to begin within a few weeks.
Ticket crackdown underway
Maine Township has launched a new program to track down those with parking and other outstanding tickets. The township now can identify violators with more extensive state-provided information than in the past, officials said. Violators will be sent letters notifying them of failure to pay the fine by the due date. Violators may appear before an informal compliance hearing at dates beginning in April. Those who don't pay penalties or fail to appear for compliance hearings will have to appear in Cook County Circuit Court. Councilman to host meeting
Palatine Councilman Scott Lamerand will host a meeting for all District 2 residents at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at village hall, 200 E. Wood St. Topics will include police and fire, stormwater management, referendum questions on secession and the Cook County sales tax, and the projected impact of the stimulus bill on Palatine. Arlington Heights Theaters is sponsoring the sixth annual "Movie with the Mayor for Arlington Heights Senior Citizens" at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25. Arlington Heights residents who are 62 or older are invited to watch "Last Chance Harvey" at the theater at 53 S.
