Just saving the taxpayers some money

In his March 13 letter to Fence Post, DuPage Democrat Party boss Bob Pieckert made some outrageous statements regarding a state office that Addison Township rents to State Rep. Dennis Reboletti. Mr Pieckert used a figure of square footage that was transposed in error as being 3,199 square feet instead of the actual 1,399 square feet. To clarify who is right or wrong, I challenge Pieckert to come to the office with a tape measure so we can put another misstatement by him to rest.

Pieckert further contends that we are giving Reboletti some sort of an under-the-table deal on his rent. So I'll use his own figure of $11 a square foot and concur that on 1,399 feet the taxpayers would have to pay $17,256 per year.

Instead, the taxpayers are paying $3,000 per year, a savings of $14,256. Being the good Democrat he is, Pieckert would enjoy having the taxpayers pay more. The space in question was leftover vacant space. If we could rent it to the private sector, which we cannot do, we would pay taxes on that income. We don't pay taxes on renting it to another governmental body.

We approached numerous governmental agencies to rent the space with no takers. So Mr. Pieckert, should we have left it vacant, or save the taxpayers some money? Incredibly, he doesn't seem to understand that the money comes out of the same taxpayers pocketbook. Piekert is showing exactly why his Democrat/Blagojevich Party has driven the state $10 billion in debt.

Now they want to increase our taxes 50 percent to bail themselves out of the mess they created. Thanks, but no thanks - we don't need that kind of reckless fiscal management in Addison Township.
