Director Janet Fitch will present her documentary film "The Promise of America" at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St. in Geneva.

The film documents the experiences of people involved in a major demonstration for gun control. The film explores motivations of participants, along with barriers they overcame in order to demonstrate, and their responses to the experience. After the screening, Fitch will participate in a discussion of the efficacy of demonstrations, as well as developments in gun control policies.

Fitch is the producer and director of two documentaries on gun violence which have aired on Wisconsin Public Television, and is currently working on her third. She is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Milwaukee, Wis.

There is no charge and reservations are not required. The Friday Flicks series shows films about social and economic justice on the third Friday of the month.

The St. Gall Parish annual St. Patrick's Day dinner is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the parish hall, 120 W. Shannon St. (at Route 47) in Elburn. The dinner is a 126-year-old tradition. Dinner includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls and pie. Carryout will be available at American Legion Post 630, 112 N. • Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 5N939 Meredith Road in Virgil, is hosting all-you-can-eat fish fries from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays through April 3.

The menu includes fried perch, baked cod, sides, beverages and dessert. Shrimp and macaroni and cheese are also available. • Urban Youth Ministry of Wayside Cross Ministries will hold its Friendship Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28 with guest speaker Dave Dravecky, former major league pitcher. The dinner will be held at the Harkness Family Center, 60 S. Fourth St., Aurora. Urban Youth Ministry works with at-risk youth and children.

Dravecky is a Christian motivational speaker and author, and a former major league pitcher with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. Cancer destroyed his left arm-his throwing arm.

Christian rock

Hosanna! Lutheran Church presents "Spring Recharge," a free concert for middle school and high school students at 7 p.m. today. Hosanna! is at 36W925 Red Gate Road (at Randall Road) in St. Charles. Chorale music

The Jamestown (North Dakota) College Choir, one of the oldest touring choirs in the Midwest, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 Eastside Drive, Geneva. It is free and open to the public. Freewill donations will be accepted.

The performance by the 65-member Jamestown Choir is part of the choir's spring tour, which includes stops in Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota and North Dakota. The Jamestown Choir has been performing throughout the United States and Europe for more than 90 years.
