Still Middle School names new principal

A 10-year veteran of Indian Prairie School District 204 was tapped Monday to become the principal of Still Middle School.

Gregory Middle School assistant principal Kimmer Cornish will replace Jennifer Nonnemacher, who was selected late last year to open the district's seventh middle school - Fischer Middle School - which opens this fall.

During her district tenure, Cornish served six years as a math teacher and two years as a dean of students at Neuqua Valley High School. She currently serves as an assistant principal at Gregory Middle School.

Director of Secondary Education Kevin Myers said Cornish's appointment was an easy selection.

"She is an instructional leader that places students first and she understands the importance of the culture and climate of a building. She is a great asset to our students and staff," Myers said. "She has done a tremendous job with the team building and curriculum aspects of (Gregory Middle School)."

Cornish said she is thrilled.

"There will be some changes next year with the staff and students, and I look forward to being part of a wonderful opportunity to best serve the Still school community."

Before Indian Prairie, Cornish taught in math at Fort Zumwalt School District in Missouri. She has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, and a Master's degree in leadership and administration from Benedictine University.

Administrators also recommended the appointments Monday night of Jacquelyn Spires and Scott Dart as assistant principals of Fischer Middle School. Spires has served as a teacher in the district since 2000 and Dart has been assistant principal of Still Middle School for the last three years.

Each will begin their new assignments on July 1.
