Stevenson senior honored
Stevenson High School senior Henry Wood has been selected to the 16th Illinois High School Association All-State Academic Team. He is only the second student from the Lincolnshire school to have received this honor; the first was Jared Frost in 2002. Twenty-six students were chosen for this year's team from more than 500 applicants. They will be honored during an awards dinner on April 20.
Lake Villa fashion show
The Rhema Marx 2009 benefit fashion show is set for March 12 at the Lakehouse Restaurant 850 Tower Drive in Lake Villa at 7 p.m. The fundraiser will benefit the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center in Gurnee and Home of the Sparrow Women's Shelter in Crystal Lake. The show will feature purses, clutches and custom wristbands by Rhema Marx. The designer uses mostly recycled leather in the pieces. Euro-style shoes by Kathryn Kerrigan will be shown as well. There also will be a self-defense demonstration, music and door prizes. For more information, call (847) 363-4090 or (815) 585-0079
Special police enforcement in Gurnee
Gurnee police say there will be special enforcement with increased emphasis on impaired driving from March 6 through 22. Authorities said there will be a particular focus around the St. Patrick's Day holiday, when impaired driving incidents involving alcohol and drugs tend to increase. Efforts will be funded by an Illinois Department of Transportation grant and money from the National Highway Safety Administration. "Impaired driving is simply not worth risking your life or your freedom," Gurnee Police Chief Robert Jones said. "It is a serious crime. Violators will be spending their money on bail, court, lawyers, a $500 administrative penalty and associated towing fees. That is not a great way to celebrate a holiday."
