Maine West stages comedy for winter play

Students at Maine West are performing the comedy "Play On!" today through Saturday, Feb. 21.

Written by Rick Abbot, it's the story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a murder mystery despite maddening interference from a self-absorbed playwright who keeps revising the script.

Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show. Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal. The final act is the performance, in which anything and everything that can go wrong does.

Directed by fine arts teacher Brent Shaphren, the play features West students Kristyn Kuzniar, Danielle Kapolas, Matthew Holtz, Stacy Calas, Kim Nelson, Marco Becerra, Erik Morrisey, Katie Malone, Kristen Abolins and Jeni Gustafson. Reb Mueller is student assistant director; Sian Mehl is student stage manager; and Nina Dugan and Alyssa Vierneza are stage hands.

All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Maine West bookstore or at the door. Maine West High School is located at 1755 South Wolf Road in Des Plaines.
