Honoring Lincoln

The Prospect Heights Public Library will host a Songs of the Civil War concert Sunday presented by the History Singers. The concert begins at 2 p.m. in the library, 12 N. Elm St. and commemorates the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. John and Kathryn Atwood, a husband/wife duo who have merged their love for history and American music, will entertain and educate the audience with music and commentary. Eat wings for WINGS

The Schaumburg Friends of WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) invite the public to their annual event, Wings for WINGS, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at Buffalo Wild Wings in Hoffman Estates, 2540 New Sutton Road. The event includes a buffet and beverages provided by Buffalo Wild Wings, along with raffle prizes, entertainment, a visit from local firefighters and face painting. 3-mile trot this morning

A three-mile "easy" run sponsored by the Arlington Trotters will begin at 8:30 a.m. today in Busse Woods at the first grove on the south side of Higgins Road, east of Route 53. The run is free and the Trotters will provide food and drinks afterward. For a longer run, the Trotters host a Seven @ Seven (7 miles at 7 a.m.) run every Saturday through the neighborhoods of Elk Grove Village. Park along Bennett Street, just north of Hoskins Chevrolet east of Arlington Heights Road across from where the elks reside. Visit arlingtontrotters.com for information.

Free flu shots offered

Northwest Community Hospital is offering free flu shots this month until all vaccine supplies are gone. You can drop by immediate care treatment centers in Lake Zurich, Buffalo Grove, or Schaumburg. Go to nch.org/flu for details, or call (847) 618-4968.

Sonic opens in Bartlett

Sonic Drive-In, which has more than 3,500 drive-ins nationally but only recently entered the Illinois market, will open its first northwest Cook County location at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 1121 Stearns Road in Bartlett. The restaurant will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, with Village President Catherine Melchert and franchisee Seth Wolken on hand, followed by a private sneak peak from noon to 7 p.m.

D211 foundation scholarships

Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 is looking to award more than 20 scholarships. The District 211 Foundation has more than $34,000 in financial aid available to students.
