Slate challenged in Schaumburg Twp.; challenges in Deer Park
The April 7 race for Schaumburg Township offices could change from the most contested in recent memory to entirely uncontested.
It all rests on next week's electoral board hearing on the objection filed by Schaumburg Township Republican Committeeman Michael Adelizzi against the entire Democratic slate.
Adelizzi's objection states that the Democrats' nomination form wasn't notarized before it was filed with the township.
The Democrats have slated a candidate for every elected township position except assessor. It's been rare in recent years for this many Democrats to seek seats in Schaumburg Township government.
Because the township's regular electoral board is made up of incumbents from among the current Republican slate, the chief judge of the Cook County Circuit Court will appoint an electoral board to hear the case from among a list of attorneys, township officials said.
The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Room 310 at Schaumburg Township Hall, 1 Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates.
There are also rumors that numerous challenges have been filed against municipal candidates in Deer Park. Village Clerk Susan Meyle did not return calls Tuesday seeking confirmation.
Village President Scott Gifford, who is facing a re-election challenge from Trustee Bob Kellermann, also would not confirm how many challenges have been filed or which candidates have been challenged.
Village Attorney Paul Keller confirmed that he'd heard there were objections filed, but said he had no specific information.
