Speaker on child exploitation

Robert Hugh Farley, an internationally recognized consultant on child sexual exploitation, will be the featured speaker at a symposium co-sponsored by Maryville Academy and the Des Plaines Park District. The symposium for parents, educators and child care professionals will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Prairie Lakes Theater, 515 East Thacker in Des Plaines. Farley will discuss protecting children from predators who use the Internet and other electronic means to prey on children. Farley was a decorated police detective and deputy U.S. marshal and currently serves as an international exploitation consultant for INTERPOL. The symposium will begin with a resource exchange featuring Des Plaines police, the Northwest Center Against Sexual Abuse, Maine Community Youth Assistance Foundation, Maine Township High School District 207, Des Plaines Public Library, MaineStay Youth and Family Services and Maryville. Hear from Rolling Meadows top 10 companies

Representatives from Rolling Meadows 10 largest employers will be featured during the Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 4. They'll be talking about their companies' histories, how to sell them products or services, and their policies on corporate giving. The businesses are: A. H. Management Group, the city of Rolling Meadows, Harris Consumer Lending, Komatsu America, Meijer, Northrop Grumman, Panasonic, Riverside Publishing, RTC Industries and Wal-Mart. School board candidate filings

Eight candidates will vie for Wheeling Township District 21 and East Maine District 63 school board positions in the April 7 election. Neither race is contested. In District 21, four 4-year terms are up. District 21 candidates are incumbents Bill Harrison of Buffalo Grove, Arlen S. Gould of Arlington Heights and Phil Pritzker of Arlington Heights, along with newcomer Elva Arreola of Wheeling. District 63 also has four seats up for election, each for four years. Candidates are incumbents Walter Gluzkin, Jane Wojtkiewicz and Steven Levy, all of Glenview, and Sheila Urban of Niles.
