Arlington police seek help

Arlington Heights Police are looking for people who saw a serious traffic accident that occurred at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday at Golf and Algonquin roads. The accident, which left one person in critical condition, involved a white sports-utility vehicle and a black two-door convertible. Witnesses should call (847) 368-5300 and ask for Officer Shawn Gyorke or Cmdr. William Newman.

Ticket protest brings charge

A 71-year-old Des Plaines man has been charged with disorderly conduct after he left a threatening note at city hall, police reports said. Roger E. Engelking, of the 1900 block of Webster Lane, walked into the city's finance department, 1418 Miner St., at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and placed a note on the desk reading "I hope you all die a slow death," according to reports. He was arrested 15 minutes later near his home and told police he wanted to get back at city officials for all the tickets and fines he has had to pay, reports said. His court date is Feb. 27.

Charges filed in gun use

Three people were arrested Jan. 21 and charged with felony aggravated discharge of a firearm after a Prospect Heights incident where a gun was fired into a door. Eliseo Andino, 18, of the 800 block of Walter Avenue, Des Plaines; Edgar Carabez, 18, of the 1200 block of Washington Street, Des Plaines; and Edgardo Sanchez, 19, of the 400 block of Norman, Roselle, will be in court Feb. 9. Police gave this account: Andino's 16-year-old girlfriend, who was the victim's former girlfriend, said the man used to hit her. The three went to at an apartment on the 800 block of East Old Willow Road where the victim lived around 8 p.m. Jan. 15 and the girl tried to lure the victim outside. When that failed, Andino fired a gun into a glass patio door and the three battered the door with a baseball bat. The victim directed officers to the girl who, in turn, fingered Andino, who implicated Carabez and Sanchez.

Crackdown in Streamwood

Streamwood police will be targeting impaired drivers between Friday, Jan. 30, and Sunday, Feb. 15, with additional officers monitoring for traffic law violators, authorities said.

Ice sculpting demo Saturday

The Elk Grove Village Public Library, 1000 Wellington Ave., will host an ice sculpting demonstration at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. Master ice sculptor Dan Rebholz, owner of Elk Grove-based World-Class Ice Sculpture, will use his chain saw and ice-sculpting tools to turn a 300-pound block of ice into an amazing ice creation.
