District 211 teachers win honors for national certification

Last week, the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board recognized 11 teachers who earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

The certification is the highest accreditation in the teaching field and it takes about a year of intense work to go through the program.

Teachers are judged by their peers, using five standards that center around how they treat students, accountability and knowledge of classroom material.

Since 2000, District 211 has had 84 teachers who have earned the certification. Illinois had the fifth most certified teachers in the nation and District 211 has the fourth most certified teachers of all districts in the state.

The 211 program offers a $3,000 pay raise for those who go through the certification.

This year's teachers are Conant High School's Eric LeBlanc, Amy Spizzirri and David Wolf; Fremd High High School's Nicole LaBeau; Hoffman Estates High School's Jeremy Harkin, Carolyn Koch and Kay Yereb; Palatine High School's Sarah Keefe, Kathleen Petko and Susan Quinlan; and Schaumburg High School's Sara Dopke.
