Judge rules on evidence

A judge ruled Wednesday prosecutors may only use one of three taped interviews police had with an Addison man in which they said he incriminated himself in the stabbing murders of his mother and a prostitute. Gary Schuning, 26, may face the death penalty if convicted of the Feb. 26, 2006, double homicide. DuPage Circuit Judge John Kinsella found a Feb. 27 audio interview is admissible at trial, but he suppressed two later interviews, one of which was on video, after agreeing with the defense that police questioned Schuning after he asked for counsel. The trial begins March 24.
