County board meets
The Lake County Board could decide Tuesday, Jan. 20, whether to put an advisory referendum on the April ballot about extending Route 53 north into Lake County. The proposal, floated earlier this month, would not be binding but would gauge how county residents feel about the idea, proponents have said. Lawmakers and transportation officials have talked for decades about extending Route 53, but it's never happened. Tuesday's meeting is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the county government center, 18 N. County St., Waukegan.
