Garrett named to post
State Sen. Susan Garrett of Lake Forest has been named Senate Majority Caucus Whip by newly elected state Senate President John Cullerton, her office announced Thursday. Garrett has served in the Senate since 2003. She served in the state House from 1998 to 2002.
Scholarships available
State Rep. Kathy Ryg is accepting applications for the 2009-10 General Assembly Legislative College Scholarships until April 7. The scholarship can help students who have excelled but lack the financial resources to attend a state university. Eight one-year, full tuition scholarships are available to high school seniors, college and graduate students attending Illinois state universities in the fall. Eligible applicants must be residents of the 59th District, which includes all of or parts of Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Indian Creek, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Mettawa, Mundelein, North Chicago, Northbrook, Park City, Prairie View, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, and Wheeling. Pooch pantry
B.C. Dog Training and Better Awareness for Rescue K-9s are running a pooch pantry dog food drive at its Mundelein location, 920 Turret Court. Donors are asked to bring dry dog or cat food, canned dog or cat food, and biscuits or treats. Gift cards from pet supply stores also will be accepted. Donation drop off times are 12:30 to 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Call (847) 566-1960.
