Tax appeal time in Maine Township

Maine Township property owners can appeal their assessments to the Cook County Board of Review until Jan. 29. Property owners can download forms at cookcountyboardofreview.com and can find comparable properties to appeal based on lack of uniformity on assessments at cookcountyassessor.com. Commissioner Brendan F. Houlihan, Cook County Board of Review, 1st District, said that his office can answer questions and help with other parts of preparing an appeal. Call (312) 603-3644. Wolves player visits library

Chicago Wolves center Matt Anderson will visit the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave., at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, to talk about how you can be both an excellent reader and an excellent athlete. He'll take questions about ice hockey and say why he thinks reading helps him succeed.

Alzheimer's support group formed

An Alzheimer's Caregivers Support Group, co-sponsored by Advocate Medical Group and the Alzheimer's Association, will be offered monthly at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Meetings take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. the third Thursday of each month in the lower level conference room of hospital's Nesset Pavilion, 1775 Ballard Road. The who, how and why of becoming a U.S. citizen will be the topic of a Path to Citizenship meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at the Maine East High School Family Center, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge.
