Take a snowmobile class:
You can learn how to safely operate a snowmobile in a course offered by the Lake County Forest Preserve District. Taught by district rangers, the indoor class will prepare students for a written certification test. Passing the exam at the end of class allows anyone ages 12 to 16 to operate a snowmobile without an adult. The class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Lakewood Forest Preserve near Wauconda. It's open to adults and families with kids ages 10 or older. Admission is free but advanced registration is required. To register, call (847) 968-3411.
Recycle electronic items:
The Wauconda Township highway department is collecting unwanted electronic items for recycling. Township residents can bring computer modems, cords, keyboards, typewriters, electric razors, fans, televisions, printers, DVD players and other items to the office on the first Saturday of every month between 9 a.m. and noon. The office is at 505 W. Bonner Road. For more information, call (847) 526-2631.
