Briefs: Congressman opens new Crystal Lake office

U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo opened his new Crystal Lake office Monday at 101 N. Virginia St., Suite 170, just west of his prior location. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff is available to help constituents solve problems they are having with the federal government, including Social Security, Medicare, and the Veterans' Administration. Staff can also help constituents purchase American flags and request tour tickets in Washington, D.C. Manzullo, a Republican from Egan, represents about two-thirds of McHenry County, including those living in Crystal Lake, Cary, Fox River Grove, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and Huntley.

Trash pickup delayed

Algonquin's Village Hall and public works facility will be closed New Year's Day, delaying trash collection by one day, officials said. Under the revised schedule Thursday routes will be picked up on Friday, and Friday routes will be collected Saturday.

Health watch

In keeping with a call by President-elect Barack Obama and Secretary-designate of Health and Human Services Tom Daschle' for public discussion of health care reform, Sage Products in Cary is holding a forum on the subject Tuesday. The hour-long chat begins at 4:30 p.m. at Sage's offices, 3909 Three Oaks Road. Ideas submitted from the session will be taken to Obama's transition health policy team.
